Mar West Pump Station Project Completed

THe Mar West Phase II Pump Station Improvement Project consisted of replacing the current service pumps (dry pit vertical shaft centrifigul pump) with wet submersible Flygt pumps, which required modifications to the structure where the pumps are housed. During the process the structure will have to be taken off line which will require bypass pumping so the contractor can continue their construction activities. A dry pit configuration will be converted to a wet pit configuration, and the replacement of dry pit vertical shaft driven centrifugal pumps will be replaced with District standardized Flygt Submersible pumps. Pump maintenance in the future will be simplified by these changes.  The new configuration will allow staff to remove pumps for maintenance by lowering a hoist attachment down into the pit and lifting them out with the push of a button, rather than having 4 staff members subject to a confined space entry, leaving them free to work on other projects and maintenance activities.
